Club Information
Saxmundham Sports Cricket Club is a friendly and family oriented village cricket club located near the East Suffolk coast. The aim of the club is to encourage people to participate, to improve and above all to enjoy playing cricket. We are one of the sporting sections of Saxmundham Sports & Recreational Club, a registered charity (number 287624), that owns the 27 acre Carlton Park ground. Carlton Park is designated as historic parkland and has some attractive views across rolling Suffolk countryside. Other facilities at Carlton Park include a camping and caravan site, a bowls green, football pitches, tennis courts, a running club and an adventure playground for young children.
We have two adult teams playing in the Suffolk Cricket Alliance leagues, an academy side and an under 15 side. We also play friendly matches when they can be arranged. Junior coaching with ECB qualified coaches takes place throughout the summer. We play our home matches in the spacious surroundings of Carlton Park. Our facilities include an artificial net (soon to be decommissioned after many years of club use, but mainly because it's falling to bits...) and a bowling machine along with all the obligatory things like changing rooms, toilets, showers, a kitchen and so on.
Above all, we just enjoy playing cricket, there's something very therapeutic about hitting that perfect shot, bowling a delivery which leaves the batsmen bamboozled or taking a stunning catch. Whatever the result, we like to wind down after the game, including the obligatory moaning about dodgy decisions, with some snacks and a drink. A few social events are also organised throughout the year.
